The Author
MaMa Berry
Carolyn Berry’s grandchildren call her MaMa Berry, a title the author cherishes. She delights in spoiling her grandchildren (ages 2 months, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7), taking them on outings and overnight excursions, and hosting Camp MaMa Berry. She bought a van and filled it with car seats and booster seats. When the children are snug and belted in, they set out on yet more adventures!
Education
Before becoming MaMa Berry, Carolyn taught high school English, history, and special education. She earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with a concentration in print journalism from Virginia Wesleyan College, now Virginia Wesleyan University, and a master’s degree in education from Old Dominion University. She is a member of the Author’s Guild, the Virginia Writers Club, and several Facebook grandparent and writers groups, including Pitched to Published.
Early Career
Prior to teaching, Carolyn worked as a free-lance writer, editor, and photographer. Former clients include Tidewater Builders Association, Virginia Beach City Public Schools, the city of Virginia Beach, the Medical College of Hampton Roads, and Landmark Communications. She edited three regional magazines, wrote for Inside Business, and provided majority of the copy for a magazine published by the city of Norfolk. In her early career, she held public relations positions for healthcare organizations. Read her early work here.
